Restoration to the Register
Registration has to be renewed annually and registrants must re-register every 5 years. There may be occasions where registrants fail to renew registration on time despite receiving alerts from UKPHR prior to their due dates.
In cases where registration has lapsed because registrants have not renewed on time, the following procedures will apply in accordance with our lapsed policy.
If a registrant completes both requirements of their annual renewal (declaration form & renewal fee) or re-registration requirements within 15 working days of their annual renewal date, UKPHR will restore ‘current’ registration status immediately without loss of continuity of registration. A record of lapse will be maintained and on any second occasion (within a 5-year registration period) that this may occur on, an restoration application fee as prescribed by UKPHR will be charged for the Registrar to consider your application for restoration.
If a registrant has not responded to the opportunity to be restored to the register within 15 working days of the due date UKPHR will notify any current employer of the registrant known to UKPHR of the lapse in registration and notify the registrant of any such notification given by UKPHR.
If a registrant wishes to restore their ‘current’ status on the register, they must apply directly apply to the Registrar. Alongside the application form, a restoration application fee (varies for specialist and practitioners) is required. The Registrar has the discretion to grant restoration to the register. The Registrar may decide either of the following decisions:
- Refuse the request
- Seek further information from the applicant
- Grant restoration without the loss of continuity of registration
- Grant restoration with the loss of continuity of registration (a new registration number will be provided)
The Registrar’s grant of restoration will be conditional on payment of registration fees either in arrears to maintain continuity or the following year if continuity has been lost.
If a registrant wishes to restore their ‘current’ status on the register, they must apply directly apply to the Registrar. In such instances where registration has been lapsed for beyond 12 months, restoration to the register will be refused unless the requester can show exceptional circumstances which justify UKPHR in restoring the requester to the register despite the delay.

If you have been granted restoration to the register without loss of continuity and your re-registration date falls within the period of time you were lapsed, your ‘current’ status will not be restored until UKPHR is in receipt of your application in full.
