Rachel Flowers 
Rachel started her professional career as environmental health officer in the 1980s, after working in enforcement, community development, and wider public health roles she obtained registration as a public health specialist through a retrospective portfolio in 2007.
She has worked in local government, NHS, GLA, central government, arm’s length bodies, and most recently as a public health academic in a university. She also has over twenty years’ experience as a Board and Committee member at local and UK wide organisations.
In 2024, after over 8 years as a Director of Public Health for Croydon, she stepped down to focus on her DProf on the role of Directors of Public Health in Major Incidents. Since January 2025 she has been public health academic, working at London South Bank University teaching public health professional competencies and health in all policies to the wider workforce. In addition to the voluntary work that she does as one of the Vice-Chairs of the UKPHR Board she also supports the Association of Directors of Public Health, mainly as a member of their Health Protection Policy Advisory Group and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) as a member of their Public Health Advisory Group.
