UKPHR to review routes to specialist registration

UKPHR’s Board decided at its meeting on 22 July to begin a 2-year process of reviewing the routes to register for public health specialists, including the standards it applies in respect of each route.

This work is becoming ever timelier as, for example, the Faculty has revised the Specialty Programme curriculum and the Public Health Skills & Knowledge Framework is currently under review.

A task & finish group has been set up to commence the review. UKPHR Director Selena Gray has agreed to chair the group.

Selena has invited representation on the task & finish group from those who have direct experience of setting standards, including the Faculty of Public Health.

Selena plans to consult widely this month by way of a survey. It is intended that the task & finish group will consult during the first half of 2016 on its proposals for a new assessment framework and timetable for implementation.
