UKPHR launches amended Public Health Practitioner Registration Standards
UKPHR have now launched the amended Public Health Practitioner Registration Standards.
Following a light-touch review and consultation across the public health system, the amended standards have been refreshed to ensure they remain aligned with contemporary public health practice whilst maintaining the same level of autonomous public health practitioner practice.
The review has:
- Reduced the number of standards from 34 to 33.
- Introduced a new standard on managing resources.
- Strengthened references to safeguarding, health and safety, environmental sustainability, health protection, leadership development, multi-agency working and co-production.
- Simplified wording throughout the standards and supporting guidance to improve clarity, consistency and interpretation.
What you need to know
New applicants
Applicants accepted onto a local practitioner registration support scheme from 1 July 2026 will complete their portfolios against the 2026 amended standards.
The practitioner e-portfolio will support uploads against the amended standards from 1 September 2026.
Existing applicants
Applicants who joined a local practitioner registration support scheme before 1 July 2026 are not affected by these changes and should continue to use the 2019 standards throughout their registration journey.
Existing applicants will continue to be able to upload evidence against the 2019 standards until the end of 2027.
