Protecting the public - improving practice

Could you dedicate the next 3 months or so to help with assessing portfolios?

The public health response to COVID-19 is intense. People are working flat out and the emergency is not letting up anytime soon.

There is a need for more capacity at all levels, but we especially need more Public Health Consultants and other leaders. And we need them as a matter of urgency.

Training new Consultants takes five years, so immediately we need to look elsewhere for additional recruits. There are public health professionals in the workforce right now who are waiting to hear if UKPHR will register them as defined specialists. Many professionals submitted portfolios last year just before the defined specialist route was closed. They are waiting for their portfolios to be assessed because of a lack of assessor capacity.

As part of its COVID-19 response, the Department of Health and Social Care has agreed to provide funding for UKPHR to recruit and pay assessors to address this backlog.

Could you dedicate the next 3 months or so to help with assessing these portfolios?

We are looking to recruit professionals who can dedicate a lot of time straight away and be able to turn around portfolio assessments very quickly. In return, we will make payments to assessors per portfolio assessed.

Full training is provided – currently available dates are:

  1. Day 1, Wednesday 21st October + Day 2, Monday 26th October (full)
  2. Day 1, Tuesday 27th October + Day 2, Friday 30th October (full)

Additional training dates are being considered – please watch this space for further details.

It is necessary to attend both training dates (either session 1 or 2). These will be held online via Zoom. Please hold these dates in your diary if you submit an application.

Ongoing support is provided with buddy assessors and QA moderators. All the administration is carried out by UKPHR.

There are eligibility criteria [1].

To express an interest please email register@ukphr.org by 4pm on Monday 19th October. Application is by sending us a short letter accompanied by your CV.

To talk about your own circumstances or for queries please ring 07966 378844.

This is a time-limited project due to run between October 2020 and March 2021.

Please respond as soon as possible
