How to apply for practitioner registration
At the scheme level applicants will compile a portfolio which is assessed to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and application of UKPHR’s Practitioner Standards. After completion of assessment the application is referred to a regional verification panel who will then make recommendations on eligibility for practitioner registration direct to UKPHR. Once applicants are recommended for registration by their local scheme, they can proceed to submit their application to UKPHR at the national level.
The standards for practitioner registration are set out in UKPHR Practitioner Standards 2nd Ed and these standards are conveniently summarised in our standards table. ‘The public health function’ referred to in the standards is defined in the Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework 2016 as: ‘improves and protects the public’s health and reduces health inequalities between individuals, groups and communities, through co-ordinated system-wide action’. The standards are intended for individuals who are already working as autonomous public health professionals at Skills for Health Careers Framework index Level 5 or above.
You may find HEE’s Practitioner’s Education and Training directory helpful to look at when you are considering how to meet all of the knowledge competencies required to register with UKPHR, as it provides links to education and training opportunities.
