Invitation to tender: Review of UKPHR’s standards, guidance and processes relating to routes to registration for public health specialists

UKPHR is inviting tenders for work to revise standards, guidance and processes in relation to future portfolio assessment applications for registration as public health specialists.

The required work flows from the report of a task & finish group which UKPHR set up last year to review routes to registration for public health specialists.

UKPHR’s task & finish group completed its review in April and its recommendations have since been accepted by UKPHR’s Board. The Board is seeking a contractor to help in the development of the new standards, guidance and processes to support the changes it decided to make.

In due course, UKPHR will consult widely on the proposed changes to routes to registration and the revised standards, guidance and processes will be published with the consultation to aid understanding and inform responses.

Chair of UKPHR’s Board, Professor Bryan Stoten said that:

“Two key measures of success for UKPHR’s Board will be that the new framework for specialist registration is equitable across the various routes and robust in maintaining high standards of competence within the public health leadership group.

“We expect the work of a contractor to review and advise on changes to current standards, guidance and processes will take approximately 3 months.

“Thereafter, consultation is likely to require a further 3 months. All responses will be considered and assessed and the Board will look again at the proposed new framework in the light of the responses received with the aim of introducing the new framework during 2017. The Board will, in the meantime, maintain the current 5-yearly re-registration of all registrants. The Board will also give consideration to the need for transitional and, possibly, “grandfathering” arrangements in due course.”
