Consultation opens on revalidation scheme for all UKPHR registrants
UKPHR is seeking views on a draft revalidation scheme. UKPHR intends to introduce a mandatory requirement for all registrants (with some exemptions) to undergo revalidation every 5 years during their registration. It is intended that this requirement will replace the existing 5-yearly re-registration.
UKPHR established a task & finish group to examine, compare and contrast revalidation schemes already operated by the General Medical Council (GMC) and the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). The group was asked to make recommendations to UKPHR for the setting up of a revalidation scheme which UKPHR could operate in respect of all registrants.
This group consulted registrants and stakeholders, met and deliberated 4 times and submitted a recommended revalidation scheme to UKPHR’s Board for approval.
The Board considered the group’s recommendations at its meeting on 26 April 2016 and agreed a draft revalidation scheme for consultation. The Board also approved draft guidance which is to be published alongside this consultation.
UKPHR now seeks your views. This consultation paper sets out the proposed revalidation scheme in draft. It is accompanied by a guidance document which it is intended will eventually be published alongside the revalidation scheme.
In this Consultation, UKPHR seeks your responses to a series of questions and asks for any further comments or suggestions you may wish to contribute.
The implementation of a revalidation scheme is seen by UKPHR as a very significant development in UKPHR’s regulatory role. It will represent a major step forward in equivalence between public health specialists from all disciplines, put UKPHR on a par with those statutory regulators of health professionals at the forefront of operating revalidation and give registrants, employers, commissioners, public health partners and members of the public further assurance that UKPHR’s registrants are professionally competent and committed to maintaining and enhancing their competence during their careers.
The consultation, draft scheme and draft guidance can all be accessed on our website here
The consultation closes at 4pm on the 5th August.
