Launch of East Midlands practitioner registration scheme

UKPHR are pleased to announce the launch of the new East Midlands local practitioner registration scheme. The launch event which was held on the 19th April at the Leicester Space Centre extends the opportunity for public health practitioners to attain professional registration in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Northampton.

Delegates were welcomed by Ann Crawford, Deputy Director Health, Wellbeing and Workforce Development, Public Health England – East Midlands and James McLean, Deputy Director of Education Environment, Health Education England – East Midlands. David Kidney, Executive Director of UKPHR provided an overview of practitioner registration and the role of UKPHR. Dr Cerilan Rogers, UKPHR Moderator discussed the pivotal topic of quality assurance. Key insights from both an employer’s and registered public health practitioner perspective were delivered by Dr Cate Edwynn, Director of Public Health, Derby City Council and Dawn Morrish. Maxine Lazzari, Support Manager for the scheme informed the audience of how the scheme plans to work, following steps and key dates.

The scheme aims to recruit up to 24 practitioners to apply for registration by January 2017. Applicants should be working at level 5 and above on the Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework and have a minimum of 2 years experience in public health.

If you wish to apply to join the scheme it is important to discuss this prior with your line manager due to time commitments. The application form and self assessment forms can be downloaded from the HEE EM website and the deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 9th May.

Assessors and verifiers have a key role in local practitioner registration schemes as they uphold the standards of practice.
