New consultation seeks views to inform UKPHR’s review of routes to registration for public health specialists
UKPHR is currently reviewing the ways in which public health specialists may achieve registration. A task & finish group, representative of many public health interests, is working address the need for changes brought about by developments in public health since current routes to registration were set up many years ago. The group intends to report its advice to UKPHR in 2016 with a view to implementing changes in 2017.
In support of its work, the task & finish group is today opening a 3-month consultation to gather views from as wide a range of individuals and groups and organisations as possible. All existing routes to registration for public health specialists are discussed in the consultation and views are sought on all aspects of achieving registration. Executive Director David Kidney says that everyone with an interest in the future of effective public health practice are welcome and encouraged to give their views:
“Registrants and future applicants alike, as well as employers of the public health workforce and our partner organisations in the public health system have an interest in maintaining high standards for practice by this critical leadership group. Registration by UKPHR is an assurance of competence and we wish to ensure that this remains the case in the future. I invite as many people as possible to respond to this consultation and help improve our understanding of the issues involved and the options available for improvement going forward.”
The consultation has opened today, Wednesday 2nd December 2015 and will close on Monday 29th February 2016. Full information about the consultation, and the means of responding, can be viewed on UKPHR’s website. UKPHR will also respond to requests to give responses by means other than electronic.
